Exercise Reduces Childhood Body Fat
While diet is important, a study from Australia found that exercise is actually more important in reducing the percentage of body fat in children 8 – 12 years old. Researchers found that “physical activity is the main source of variation in the percent body fat of healthy community-based Australian children.”
In addition, there is some evidence that children who are more physically active enjoy better academic scores. Take the time to insure that your child remains physical active beyond school recess. If you can’t make it happen, get them involved in one of the recreational programs in your community.
