Male Smokers Get Dumber

There are hundreds of reasons not to smoke. Add to that list the fact that smoking increases the decline of cognitive functions.  Researchers have found that “compared with never smokers, middle-aged male smokers experienced faster cognitive decline in global cognition (thinking) and executive function (coordinated thought toward obtaining goals). In ex-smokers with at least a 10-year cessation, there were no adverse effects on cognitive decline.”

Interestingly enough, women smokers did not show any additional decline in cognitive function over those that didn’t smoke.
