Diagnosis Errors Common
Missed diagnosis can be a frightening event. You meet with a physician, they run all of the tests, they tell you what the test results mean and you find out later you have something else.
A new study has found that “diagnostic errors affect at least 1 in 20 US adults.” As might be expected, the authors “estimate that about half of these errors could potentially be harmful.”
Given these results, patients need to seek a second opinion when not satisfied with a diagnosis or the prescribed treatment. It could prevent a more serious outcome.
