Chiropractic at the 2010 Super Bowl
Chiropractic’s acceptance as a critical part of care and rehab for pro athletes was highlighted in the 2010 Super Bowl. Both the Colts and the Saints each have their own team chiropractor. Dr. Marcus McCray cares for the Indianapolis players while Dr. Robert Lizana takes care of the New Orleans players. They are both members of the Professional Football Chiropractic Society (PFCS). The PFCS’ goal is to provide consistency and take the best practices from each doctor-team alliance and create a template to apply to chiropractors who work with other pro sports.
Throughout the season, 34 chiropractors (a few teams have more than one DC) conservatively give 16,320 to 27,200 adjustments to professional football players in just 120 days. That averages out to about 40 a week per DC.
