Six-Fold Increase in Risk of Obesity for Formula Fed Infants Eating Solid Food Too Soon

For parents considering feeding their infants solid food at an early stage, consider the high risk of obesity that research has found. “Among formula-fed infants, introduction of solid foods before 4 months was associated with a sixfold increase in odds of obesity at age 3 years,” according to a recent study. Researchers noted that “among breastfed infants, the timing of solid food introduction was not associated with odds of obesity.”
