Walnuts Improve Sperm Quality in Men

September 3, 2013

A study of men 21-35 years old looked at how eating 75 grams (2.6 ounces) of shelled walnuts might increase the quality of their sperm. This is particularly important for men looking to have healthy children.

The study separated men into two groups, those who added walnuts to their regular diet every day for 12 weeks and those who ate their regular diet. At the end of the 12-week period, researchers found that “the group consuming walnuts experienced improvement in sperm vitality, motility (active movement), and morphology (structural soundness) and the group continuing their usual diet but avoiding tree nuts saw no change.”
